128. Baba's Breakfast Sandwich

What’s in it? - toasted, lightly buttered toast. - strawberry-rhubarb jam. - thin sliced Ukrainian Garlic sausage. - thin sliced marble brick cheese

What should we know? As a young boy visiting my Baba in Roblin , Manitoba , Canada , my Baba (grandmother) would serve toast and jam with tea and milk every morning. Also present was a tray of cold meats and cheese. One morning, to gross out my little sister, I slapped some Ukrainian Sausage and marble cheese in between two slices of toast and jam (as a side note, the jam was my Baba's homemade jam which was absolutely second to none… how I miss that jam!). My Baba and sister thought I was crazy, but icredibly it was about the tastiest sandwich I had ever eaten. Many more were consumed over the years. Not for everyone I'm sure, but awesome if you give it a try.

132. Grilled Ham and Cheese with Apple Jam

What’s in it? Butter, softened Apple Jam (preferably with apple chunks) Sliced Ham fresh grated Parmesan cheese grated cheddar

What should we know? Start heating the skillet. Coat lightly with cooking spray. Put the ham in the skillet to warm. Spread the softened butter on the bread (these are the outsides). To spread the jam on the other side without getting gross, put the two pieces of bread together butter side in. Spread a thick layer of apple jam. Take the ham out of the skillet and dry the skillet a bit. Spray with more cooking spray. Put the bread with the apple jam in the skillet, butter side down. Put the warm ham on top. Then grate the Parmesan cheese on the ham. Sprinkle some grated (or sliced) cheddar on top of that. Place the other piece of bread on top, butter side out. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, then carefully flip. Cook until the other side is golden brown. Check to make sure the cheese is melted and the meat is hot. If it isn't, turn the heat down (or off) and place the sandwich on the least brown side to finish heating things through. When everything is good and melted, slice in half diagonally and serve.

133. Cheese and Jam Toasty

What’s in it? Butter two pieces of bread. Spread jam (raspberry is best, as it's not so sweet, but strawberry also works) on one piece and grate some cheese (I like mature cheddar or emental) onto the other. Place in a toasty maker, or roast in an oven till the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.

What should we know? It's better to have a bit more jam than cheese. Honestly, this sounds disgusting, but it's my favourite toasty next to cheese & jalepeno!

What’s in it? You can make this sandwich with any of the following: Peanut butter (crunchy or smooth) and the choice of whatever jellies/jams/preserves of your choosing Nutella Peanut butter and banana

What should we know? Basically, this is your usual PB&J sandwich, just on toasted waffles instead of bread. Variety is the spice of life, as they say; so using waffles instead of bread is a good switchup, in my opinion! (Of course, you will want the waffles toasted; can't have people's teeth breaking on frozen waffles!)

138. Mom's Peanut Butter Jumble (goopless PB&J)

What’s in it? 1 large jar peanut butter 1 jar jelly, jam, or preserves 1/4 lb butter or margarine a larger jar. With mixer cream the butters together until well mixed. Fold in jelly to keep the butters fluffy but work it in very well so it isn't goopy. Slather on a slice of bread and top with another.

What should we know? Because of the jelly this mix will need to be refridgerated, but the butter & jelly will make it easier to spread even when cold. Even my kids love this one, they can eat as many as they want and their fingers won't get very sticky.
